Birth of the 1st Asia Barista Champion
Mr. Carl Sara is our 2008 Asia Barista Champion
May 29, 2008 – The search for the 1st Asia
Barista Champion is finally over. Held during the Food&HotelAsia 2008
from the 22nd April – 24th April, the Asia Barista Championship allows all
the participating baristas a chance to demonstrate their great passion in
coffee making. They also displayed professionalism in the handling of their
skills amongst their peers and the media. Once again, congratulations to
Mr. Carl Sara, from New Zealand, who not only bagged the 1st Asia Barista
Champion title, but also Best Latte Art and Best Blended Signature Beverage.
Coming up close was Mr. Scott Callaghan, from Australia, who won the 1st
runner – up. Mr. Liu Jia Wei, from Taiwan, was our 2nd runner – up as well
as the winner for Best Espresso. The Asia Barista Championship 2008 is co
– organized by the Singapore Exhibition Services, Kerry Ingredients Asia,
Singapore Coffee Association and is proudly sponsored by LaMarzocco Espresso
Machines, Greenfield’s Fresh Milk, Da Vinci Gourmet Syrup & Sauce, Coffex
Coffee, Hamilton Beach Blender, Mahlkonig Grinder, Cafetto Espresso Cleaner,
Purence Drinking water and Rattleware’s small wares.

Asia Barista Championship 2008
A Cauldron of Talents/Champions
February 19, 2008 – Most of Asia’s best baristas
will be arriving in the Merlion City on the 21st of April for their preparation
to compete for the 1st Asia Barista Champion title. Besides winning the
title, the 1st Asia Barista Champion will also get for him/herself a grand
trophy, SGD 3000.00 and also a BariSTAR vest. The rest of the participants
will also have a chance to win other prizes too. National Champion of The
Philippines - Ms. Vanessa M. Caceres, Mr. Scott Callaghan of Australia,
who is a 2006 World Latte Art Champion and 2007 Australia Barista Champion,
Mr. Carl Sara of New Zealand, who is 2004, 2005, 2007 New Zealand Champion
and 2nd runner – up for 2007 World Barista Championship, Mr. John
Ting of Singapore, 1st runner – up for 2007 Singapore National Barista
Championship, 2007 National Champion of Thailand - Ms. Sirithai Rangjanthue,
National Champion of Indonesia - Mr. Tassi Agustinus Yosef and other national
champions from Korea, China, Taiwan, India and Malaysia will also be participating.
There will also be an international panel of professional judges i.e., Mr.
Justin Metcalf of Australia, an international expert to the World Barista
Championship’s Judges and Certification Committee, Mr. Meechai Amornpathanakul,
President of the Barista Association of Thailand, Mr. Andrew Hetzel who
is the 1st SCAA accredited Coffee Judge in Hawaii, and etc. ABC 2008 is
co – organized by Singapore Exhibition Services, Kerry Ingredients

First Press Release: First Asia Barista Championship 2008
Asia is looking for its first Barista Champion!
December 14, 2007 – The battle between Asia’s best baristas is taking place soon in the first ever Asia Barista Championship 2008, held in Singapore; in conjunction with Food Hotel Asia, from the 22 nd – 24 th of April next year. Asia’s Champions like Japan, Korea, Australia, Thailand, Singapore, China, India, etc. will be flying into Singapore especially for this event to fight for the title of Asia Barista Champion. This group of National Champions will then be judged by a panel of experienced international judges. The Asia Barista Championship is a regional event that seeks to recognize baristas as a professional career in the region as well as develop the growth and quality of gourmet coffee. This event is also co – organize by Singapore Exhibition Services, Kerry Ingredients Asia and Singapore Coffee Association.
